TopSpeed dating advice: go exotic

TopSpeed dating advice: go exotic

A new study now confirms what every newly divorced, middle-aged balding guy already knows: women are turned on by exotic cars. British insurer Hiscox (insert your joke here) commissioned a study of 40 men and women. All were subjected to the sounds of a Maserati, Lamborghini and Ferrari, and then were measured for the amount of testosterone in their saliva. The results showed that the women had elevated levels after hearing each of the exotics (i.e. the Italian accents made them feel all sexy-like.)

On the other hand, for all of you think a great personality can compensate for a more economical ride, you better be pretty funny. When the group listened to the sounds of a Volkswagen Polo, everyone’s testosterone level went down.

So if your Friday nights are kinda lonely, skip the Hair Club for Men and make your way to the nearest Italian car dealership.

More dating help after the jump.

Ferrari Enzo Successor spy shot

Ferrari Enzo Successor spy shot

Here is the first spy shot of the Ferrari’s successor to the Enzo. It doesn’t seem like there is too much to see because the car is wearing the body of the F430 Scuderia.

The car is known internally as the FX70 and is set to be unveiled in either 2011 or 2012 with a price tag of at least $500,000. Production will be limited to around 300 vehicles.

Under the hood Ferrari might place either a V12 engine or a Twin-turbo V8. No matter the engine, output will be around 750 hp. This power should help make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in less than 3 seconds and hit a top speed of 235 mph.

Read our preview of the Enzo’s successor in here.

Dodge Viper : Becoming Chrysler Unwanted Baggage?

Like romance gone sour, Chrysler may soon part ways with its Dodge Viper nameplate in what analysts say a move geared for profitability. Chrysler Chief Executive Bob Nardelli already hinted of “exploratory talks” from interested third-party buyers. Viper rolled out into production into 1992 and made headlines with its tough pose and impressive V-10 engine. It had its heyday. And for a while, car enthusiasts swarmed around it like ants do in bowl of sugar. But in these times of economic uncertainties, soaring gas prices, buyers shifted from gas churning sports utility vehicles to more fuel efficient cars. The shift showed in Dodge Vipers’ plunging sales, not to mention it takes 14 workers to make one Viper a day. As the third largest US-based automaker in the world, Chrysler is not the only one caught in the financial maelstroms. General Motors said it was reassessing its Hummer brand when it chalked up $15.5 billion loss in the second quarter. Ford Motors followed suit. It sold its Jaguar and Land Rover brands to Tata Motors Ltd. And from all indications, automakers seem poised for more cost-cutting measures to conserve assets. But Chrysler planned sell-out of its non-core asset, like Dodge Viper, should not scare its investors away. Top company officials are scheduled to visit Nissan Motor Corps to discuss on a possible deal for a small car design which Nissan would build for Chrysler. When this deal pushes through, Chrysler officials hope the small car models will bring the company back on track. But a stroke of luck could still change Viper’s fate. For those who owned this hunk of squealing tires, keep your head high. Your Dodge Viper could still prove to be a good buy after al

Dodge Viper ACR at Nurburgring - new video

Yesterday we brought you the news about the Dodge Viper ACR unofficially breaking the record at the Nurburgring. Well for those of you who don’t believe it, get you stopwatches out — here’s the video.

Dodge Viper ACR set new Nurburgring record

Dodge Viper ACR set new Nurburgring record

Well if the Viper is for sale, the price may have just gone up. On August 18, Dodge Viper ACR established a new Nurburgring record (unofficial) with a time of 7:22, coming in front of the Corvette ZR1 and Nissan GT-R.

The man who established this result is FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) driver Tom Coronel, who pilots a Leon TFSi for SEAT Team Holland. On his fourth attempt, he established an amazing 7:22.1 (first two laps-a 7:42 and a 7:35 and third 7:24).

Until someone else will have something to day about it, the Viper ACR is the most lethal "ringer" around.

Wooden supercar called Splinter getting its future carved out

Wooden supercar called Splinter getting its future carved out

Supercars are supposed to be made from light alloys, right? Late last year, we brought you a story about a wooden supercar known as the Splinter. Well it seems that North Carolina State graduate student Joe Harmond is actually making progress on his tree-borne vehicle. The car is supposed to have a 600 horsepower engine and a 240 mph top speed. So if it hits something when at speed, then it may really be a splinter.

There are plenty of jokes to be made, but there is something truly admirable about this car. We should all be lucky enough to go out to our shed and carve out over 200 mph. Besides if you don’t think wood can make a beautiful car, you haven’t seen a Morgan.
