BMW X2 coming in 2011?

BMW X2 coming in 2011?

BMW just loves to blur the line between car and SUV. With SUVs already based on the 3 and 5-Series, the German company may be readying two SUV to spawn from the 1-Series. The four-door X1 has already been given approval for production, and now the two-door X2 may be on the way.

If the rendering from CAR Magazine is accurate then the sporty looking X2 will be much like a little brother to the mixed-identity X6. It’s a little hard to admit but there is some attraction to a sporty coupe on a tough 4x4 platform. It’s kinda like how a girl gets hotter after she punches you in the face.

2009 BMW PAS / P6

BMW PAS / P6

Here’s an exclusive rendering of the BMW Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS). What we know so far about the car is that it will slot between the 5 and 7-Series sedans, and it should be available with a variety of six and eight-cylinder engines that give it a horsepower range of 272 to 420. Production should begin next year.

It seems that BMW already has enough cars in its stable to satisfy the market the PAS is trying to occupy. But like any good German automaker, it wants to keep up with the domestic competition. The five-passenger PAS will be built spacious enough to be used as a direct competitor to Mercedes R-Class.

So what will BMW name the new car? It can’t stay PAS, because BMW hasn’t used a pure letter designation car since the Bavaria of the early 70s. So, if the PAS is bigger than a 5-Series but smaller than a 7-Series, then it should be called the 6-Series. No, already have one of those. Ok, it looks kinda SUV-ish, how about the X6? Nope, already got that too.

What BMW will likely have to do is designate a new letter class for the PAS (such as “Z” for sports coupes/roadsters and X for SUVs.) BMW may be providing a hint with the PAS name, as in the new class will be “P”, “A” or “S”. Because of the car’s size, the name will likely include a “6”, and if it used the “A” or “S” designation it would be confused with an Audi. So by elimination, we are saying that BMW will call the car the P6.

Can you do any better, please help?

2010 Ford Mustang spy shots

Ford will unveil the 2010 Mustang at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. After revealing its official badge, the guy from Mustang Forums brought the car latest images. It’s hard to call them spy shots, as Ford let the car in a place where anyone could see it.

The 2010 Mustang will be offered with a V-6 and a variety of V-8 engines. The design will be inspired by the Giugiaro concept unveiled in 2006 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

After Cadillac will unveil the coupe version of its successful CTS they will also bring the more powerful V version. And here is the first spy shot to prove it. The CTS Coupe will be unveiled in 2009 as a 2010 model year. The CTS-V Coupe will follow a few months later. It will be powered by a 6.2L LSA supercharged V8 engine that will deliver 500 hp.

Ferrari Enzo Successor spy shot

Ferrari Enzo Successor spy shot

Here is the first spy shot of the Ferrari’s successor to the Enzo. It doesn’t seem like there is too much to see because the car is wearing the body of the F430 Scuderia.

The car is known internally as the FX70 and is set to be unveiled in either 2011 or 2012 with a price tag of at least $500,000. Production will be limited to around 300 vehicles.

Under the hood Ferrari might place either a V12 engine or a Twin-turbo V8. No matter the engine, output will be around 750 hp. This power should help make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in less than 3 seconds and hit a top speed of 235 mph.

2009 Lexus RX spied

Auto Motor und Sport caught the 2009 Lexus RX testing at the Nurburgring race track. This should say a lot about the future of the original crossover SUV, because most SUVs don’t take the time to be able to say "tested at the Nurburgring".

The base engine will be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 introduced this year in the current RX 350. Top version will be powered by a 380 hp 4.6-liter V8 engine used in the recently introduced LS 460 sedan.

Mercedes SLC - new rendering

Here is an exclusive new rendering of gullwing SLC, the future supercar from Mercedes. The SLC will replace the SLR in Mercedes’ line-up and will be built in-house by AMG.

Most likely the power unit will be an AMG V8 displacing over 6 liters and producing around 500 bhp with normal aspiration. A probable turbocharged version could easily reach 700 bhp.

2010 Beetle rendering

2010 Beetle rendering

Volkswagen is currently developing the next generation Beetle, a car that according to AutoExpress will get more sporty and striking look. The new Beetle needs to be good because it now has more competition from models like Mini and Fiat 500. Sales will begin in 2010.

The gas engine range of the 2010 Beetle will include: a new 1.4-liter engine (both naturally aspirated-80 hp and turbocharged-120 hp), a 102 hp 1.6-liter engine, 2.0-liters engines (both naturally aspirated-150 hp and turbocharged-200 hp), a 150 hp 1.4 dual-charger TSI, and a diesel TDi engine. All the engines will be mated with a DSG paddle-shift transmission.

2010 Kia VG rendering

Kia is currently developing a near-luxury sedan that is set to debut in at the end of 2009. And according to Kia World it might look like the picture above. Spy shots taken in Death Valley and South Korea revealed that the car is already well into development.

The 2010 VG should be Kia’s U.S. replacement for the Amanti sedan. Under the hood there will be a direct-injection, 3.8-liter Lambda V6 engine.

Rolls Royce RR4 to come with suicide doors?

Guess what? The much-awaited Rolls Royce RR4 will hit the streets with a surprising rear suicide doors. You heard it right, folks. RR4 comes equipped with suicide doors. What’s a suicide door, by the way? According to Wikipedia, a suicide door is a car door that is hinged on the edge closer to the rear of the vehicle. The term reflects a perceived increased danger of the door falling open when the car is moving. For sometime, Rolls Royce officials kept inquiries at bay about the car’s detailed specs except that the designers molded it after the road-hugging BMW-7 series. The usual aluminum-steel base combination provides RR4 the necessary legroom for a comfortable driving. Now its spy shots showed distinctive improvements. There’s the shorter wheelbase, for a start. This means that RR4 will use the BMW Series -7 platform, but with its own custom-built engine. This was no big deal, of course, since car enthusiasts had already seen it coming. So what’s surprising about RR4? Spy shots showed hinges of its rear doors are built at the rearmost part of the panel, an unmistakable indication of suicide doors. Understandably, its manufacturers will juggle for semantics and call it “coach doors” instead. Rolls Royce RR4, priced at a staggering £170,000, will be officially presented Geneva Motor Show this coming March 2009 and production will begin immediately a year after. Until then, the reason why RR4 has suicide doors is as good as anybody’s guess.
