It’s hard enough to get your hands on a Fiat 500 outside of Europe, but if you are one of the lucky few, then here’s how to get a little more power out of the little car. JCR Racing LTD, a British tuning house specializing in Fiat and Alfa Romeo vehicles, unveiled their latest conversion kit for the Fiat 500. The new kit includes a supercharger, a new intercooler system, custom designed hood scoop or bulge, depending on the customer’s choice painted to match the color of the car and some ECU modifications.

According to the manufacturer, the supercharger boosts the power of the engine to 150 bhp (50 more hp) without affecting the fuel economy. Price of the kit: 2,800 pounds (currently about $5,100.)

You can watch a video of the engine revving here.

Magna will offer supply soft-tops for the 500 convertible

Fiat announced today that Magna Car Top Systems has won the contract to supply folding soft tops for the forthcoming Fiat 500 convertible. The mini-car will be produced at Fiat’s factory in Poland.

The Fiat 500 convertible will be another project carried out for an Italian firm by Magana Car Top Systems (CTS). Two years ago Bertone showed a study of a Fiat Grande Punto Convertible with 4 seats, for which Magna Car Top Systems developed a two-piece retractable hardtop. So far there are only 2+2 seaters in this market segment. This convertible car study was a joint work of Bertone and CTS.

Fiat 500’s production will be increased to 200,000 units

Fiat 500's production will be increased to 200,000 units

With the gas prices lately, it is no surprise the minicars are a hot item, especially the fashionable retro ones like the Fiat 500. The little car has already helped boost the Italian company to a record sales year. In fact, due to huge European demand, the production has been increased to more than 200,000 units annually.

This is the second increase to 500 production since its introduction last year. The Italian carmaker initially planned to sell 120,000 units, but high demand for fuel-efficient small cars saw Fiat lift the target to 140,000 earlier this year. Fiat now has the ability to sell 195,000 of the little cars by the end 2008.

Fiat 500 and Q7 crash test video

This is a video demonstrating the most common form of frontal accident, the offset crash. This video shot by the ADAC shows what happens in the real world when David takes on Goliath. The Fiat 500 is rated as one of the safest cars in its class by the European rating standards, but the Audi Q7’s mass proves to be too much.

The ADAC is to Germany kind of like what AAA is to the U.S. It’s an auto club that includes providing help to stranded motorists as part of its services. Unfortunately for the passengers of the Fiat 500, it looks like their problems go way beyond jumper cables.

A Fiat For When Your Ferrari Is in the Shop

A Fiat For When Your Ferrari Is in the Shop

The Fiat 500 is now Ferrari’s courtesy car. Ferrari’s corporate cousin produced 200 all-red special versions of the little retro car to be used throughout Europe. Although the performance will likely be a step down from whatever the driver had before, the courtesy cars come with Fiat’s largest engine for the 500 (1.4 liters, 100 horsepower), and they also “offer specific tuning and exhaust in perfect harmony with the sporty spirit of the ‘prancing horse’.”

Fiat is also touting items on the car such as the red brake calipers, sporty pedal set, special black steering wheel with red stitching and 16” alloy wheels. But honestly, no matter how special this 500 may be, if you pick up a date in your economy-based courtesy car, do you really think she’s going to believe you when you tell her that your Ferrari is in the shop?

Fiat 500 sold for $400,000

Fiat 500 sold for $400,000

It is a bit strange for one of the most cheapest cars in the world to be sold with £200,000, nearly $400.000, but it happened! A Fiat 500 has been auctioned for charity last week in London and this is the incredible amount for which it was sold.

Generous donors from the ARK (Absolute Return for Kids) charity raised an incredible £25 million for children at a gala reception in the Royal Naval College, Greenwich on Thursday (5 June) with an auction which included the iconic Fiat. It wasn’t just any 500 though. This was one of four specially designed and painted examples of the supermini which took the art world by storm last year, designed and painted by acclaimed English artist Tracey Emin.

The work, entitled ‘Dark, Dark, Dark’, was among lots which included diamonds, a safari holiday, a speaking role in actress Uma Thurman’s next film, Eloise in Paris, use of a luxury yacht, fashion pieces and other works of art.
