Porsche will unveil at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Porsche No. 1, the first two-seat sports ever built by Porsche.
This legendary sports car and the lynchpin of Porsche’s design philosophy began life in June 1947 as engineering project Type 356 in the Porsche design office in Gmünd, Austria. Officially known as Type 356-001, Ferry Porsche’s design concept took shape through the leadership of Karl Rabe, Porsche’s talented chief designer who worked alongside Ferry’s father to develop the original Volkswagen.
It is powered by a Volkswagen air-cooled, 1.31-liter flat-four engine that delivers just 25 horsepower at 3,300 rpm. The Porsche team enlarged the bore from 70 to 75 mm, increased compression from 5.8:1 to 7.0:1, and added slightly larger inlet valves and ports and twin carburetors, boosting output to between 35 and 40 horsepower.

Honda will unveil a new compact five-door hybrid hatchback priced from under $20,000 this October at the Paris Auto Show. The car has yet to be named, but it is known inside the company as the New Dedicated Hybrid Vehicle, or simply the "small hybrid."
The small hybrid is one of four new gas-electric models that Honda plans to roll out over the next four years, as part of a broad global strategy to boost hybrid sales to 500,000 units by 2012 — about 10 percent of its total sales volume.
Honda will also unveil a production version of the sporty CR-Z hybrid coupe that debuted as a concept at last year’s Tokyo show and is now due to arrive in early 2010; a replacement for the current Civic Hybrid, in late 2010; and a new hybrid edition of the subcompact Fit in 2012.
The future Honda hybrid will be powered by smaller, lighter version of the 1.3-liter IMA system that is fitted to the Civic Hybrid, along with a continuously variable transmission. It will be a five-passenger car with same dimensions as the Toyota Prius and styling cues said to be inspired by Honda’s new FCX Clarity fuel-cell vehicle.

Suzuki will unveil at the Paris Auto Show its new Alto. This car is based on the A-Star concept revealed in March at the Geneva Auto Show.
Although Suzuki did not reveal any details on the new Alto, we can tell you that under the hood there will be a newly developed 1.0-liter aluminum engine with CO2 emission under 110 grams per kilometer. The new engine is said to be compliant with the new strict Euro-5 emission standards.

In July we reported that Volkswagen will unveil an affordable mid-engined sports car. A preview will be shown in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show and if the public reaction is positive, the new car could be in showrooms by 2011.
The new car has been designed by Walter de’ Silva, Volkswagen’s lead designer responsible for cars such as Audi’s TT and A5. The new car is described as a cut-rate Lotus Elise, designed to be stylish and lightweight while offering genuine sporty performance in combination with class-leading fuel economy. Volkswagen will offer a wide range of engines, including a 170-hp, 1.4-liter Twincharger TSI gasoline engine and a new 125-hp, 1.6-liter TDI common-rail diesel engine.
The new coupe and roadster are based on a mid-engine layout with rear-wheel drive. To keep weight down and performance strong, Volkswagen is said to have tapped Audi for expertise in aluminum-spaceframe construction.

Today BMW confirmed a diesel version of the 3-Series car will be revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, with sales to begin shortly thereafter. This represents BMW’s test of the U.S. market for the future of diesel power on these shores. The 335d will have an output of 265 hp and a peak torque of 425 lb-ft, down compared to the European version that has 282 hp and 428 lb-ft.
Along with the 335d, BMW will also present the X5 35d at the show in November.

Infiniti has confirmed that the G37 Convertible will be launched in first quarter of 2009. It will make its world debut in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show. This will be Infinity’s first convertible since the little-loved M30 of the early 90s.
The new G37 Convertible is set for a mid-2009 model year introduction. Based on the current G37 Coupe, the new G37 Convertible will feature a three-piece automatic retracting hardtop and available unique interior treatment.
Press release after the jump.

Saab will unveil at the Paris Auto Show the 9-3X crossover and a preview version of the next-generation 9-3.
The 9-3X is a variant of the current 9-3 Sportwagon estate featuring XWD four-wheel-drive system plus raised ground clearance, extra under-body protection, larger bumpers and other SUV-alike styling details. It will compete with models like Subaru Legacy Outback, Volvo XC70, Audi Allroad and Skoda Octavia Scout.
The 9-3 will be unveiled in 2010 or 2011 and will be based on GM’s Delta platform (shared with the Chevrolet Cruze, next-generation Vauxhall Astra and related models).
The 9-3 concept is a convertible version of the 9-X Biohybrid concept seen at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
Volkswagen unveiled today the official details on the 2009 Golf VI. Sales will begin in October at a price of around 16,500 Euros (German prices).
The 2009 Golf VI will be offered at the launch with two 2.0 liter TDI engines; they output of 110 hp and 140 hp. The 110 hp strong entry-level diesel is satisfied with 4.5 liters of fuel (119 g/km CO2) per 100 kilometers – that represents a 0.6 liter reduction! Even the 140 hp version only requires 4.9 liters of diesel (129 g/km CO2), which is 0.6 liters less.
There will also be four gasoline versions with output 80 hp, 102 hp, 122 hp and 160 hp. Engines will be mated to either a 6-speed or 7-speed DSG transmission.
The sixth Golf has a sportier and more distinctive appearance than any previous generation of the model series. The roof section now rests – similar to the new Scirocco – on a dominant filled out shoulder section. Responsible for this is a prominent curving line that – like a muscle trained down to the last fiber – extends from the headlights back to the taillights. All body surfaces are generally more relaxed, more athletic. In front the new car takes up the horizontally aligned radiator grille trim strip between the headlights of the first Golf generation; the grille itself is high-gloss black.
In the rear too is characterized by a dominance of horizontal lines. The taillights – very wide now – are identified among other things by an unmistakably unique night design. Stylistically – with their crystal-clear lines for the turn signal and backup lamps – they bear a resemblance to the taillights of the Touareg.
Overall, the image of the new Golf – in the interplay of all of its design characteristics – is one of a significantly wider, flatter and even more high-end car.

If the Italians can reach into their past for inspiration (Fiat 500 and the 2010 Topolino) why can’t the French? Citroen may bring a design proposition of a new CV this autumn at the Paris Motor Show, just in time to celebrate the company’s 60th anniversary.
This design was created by French designer David Portela, which gave a few ideas to Citroen about resurrecting the little car back in 2005. So, we’ll just have to wait for the Paris Auto Show to see if Citroen wants to visit its past.

The first official images of the sixth generation Volkswagen Golf has been revealed on the internet.
Just a simple facelift of the current Golf, the future generation features Scirocco’s headlights and Touareg’s tail lamps. The interior will be set up similar to the current generation and use more chrome.
The car will make its world debut this October at the Paris Auto Show. Europe should see the first models in the showrooms by the beginning of 2009, while the U.S. will have to wait likely until the end of next year.
